    Mr Ortún is an Industrial engineer, specialised in Chemistry and in Industrial Organisation, with a Doctorate in Business Administration. He was in charge, since 1979 until 1986 of the coordination of the Industrial Chapter in the Spain’s access negotiations to the European Community. He was nominated in August 1988 Director in the European Commission/DG III (Internal Market and Industrial Affairs), in charge of steel and, later on, of all the EU basic industries.

    In January 2000, he became responsible in particular for Tourism and Service Industries, as well as for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) within DG Enterprise and Industry. In January 2007, he was nominated Director responsible for the “New Approach Industries” (Equipment Goods, Construction Products, Toys), the Standardisation Policy, Tourism and CSR. From September 2010, he was the Director responsible for Tourism, CSR and Consumer Goods Industries in DG Enterprise and Industry. From October 2012, he was the Director in charge of Tourism, of the Textiles, Fashion, Design and Creative Industries and of Key Enabling Technologies and the Digital Economy, in the new DG for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), since 1st January 2015. Since 1st June 2015, he is Principal Adviser in DG GROW, responsible for the Task Force in charge of CSR and Tourism.
